Firstly, we took the old doors off of this storage cupboard and had a look at what we were up against. With thin linings, this would be a challenge with the hinges we had - but we would pull through and figure a solution.
After our evaluation we would start to put hardwood lippings on the doors per fire regulations. We would also use the router to carve space for our intumescent strips within these doors, keeping the job completely fire-safe.
We now try the double doors in, making sure the brushes within the doors are showing some resistance and all gaps around the doors are even. These doors worked perfectly so we resumed.
Nearly there now. We cut a bespoke piece of timber for the double doors to cover the gap - making it fire safe and pinning and gluing the timber to one door. We also hung the smaller door on the right.
After adding Fire rated D- handles, fire door signs and a fire rated handle and latch on the right hand door; we are finished. These cupboards have been completely refreshed and our client and flat residents couldn't be happier!
